This writer saw Pavement two times - as part of the 1995 indie-all-star edition of Lollapalooza (the Jesus Lizard, Hole, Sonic Youth) and in April 1997 at the Metro in Chicago (with none other than Shudder to Think opening).
Now, with the news official that Stephen Malkmus and company will be performing some select dates - don’t call it a permanent reunion, Matador says - we can’t help but dream up what we’d like to see them play. Here’s our list, which we’re in part presenting to provoke you to submit your own. Please do so in the comments, and we’ll include your wish list along with ours:
“Summer Babe”
“Box Elder”
“In the Mouth a Desert”
“We Dance”
“Motion Suggests”
“Here”
“Stop Breathin’ ”
“Father to a Sister of Thought”
“Gold Soundz”
“Range Life”
“Texas Never Whispers”
“Frontwards”
“Flux=Rad”
“Fight This Generation”
“Two States”
“Brinx Job”
“Debris Slide”
“Shoot the Singer”
“Shady Lane”
“Rattled by the Rush”
Don’t miss our from-the-vault interview with Malkmus - in which he talks about the Pavement breakup and reunion, as well as MC Hammer (?!) - right here.
