We know, we know: Everyone saw this one coming a mile away. But because Pavement are as essential to indie rock as strings are to a guitar, we gotta spill all the details.

[Don't miss our from-the-vault interview with Malkmus - in which he talks about the Pavement breakup and reunion, as well as MC Hammer (?!) - right here.]

According to Matador, Stephen Malkmus, Scott Kannberg, Mark Ibold, Steve West and Bob Nastanovich will be giving a “one-time-only tour” next year. Which is to say, a permanent reunion - or even additional treks - will not be happening. Yeah, we’ll eat our hat if that’s the case.

At any rate, the reunion-that-really-isn’t-one will start September 21 - that’s right, in 2010 - at New York’s Central Park. Which means that, once again, California is getting short-shrifted - even if Pavement did grow up in these parts.

After selling out in less than two minutes, additional shows have been added at the same venue for September 22 and 23. Go here for the presale on that one and use the password “ZOWEE.” CrookedRain.com will have more info as it comes to light.

Beyond a new Pavement compilation disc that will coincide with the tour, we don’t have much more info than that to report at this point. But we did gush to you recently about Spiral Stairs’ commendable new record, The Real Feel (October 20, Matador) - so go here for more on that.

And dig these two Pavement MP3s we have for free download:

With all that said, there’s just one more thing to declare: Let the countdown to 9.21.10 begin.
