Bands left and right have been game for our “Shoebox” series, for which we’ve been accumulating all sorts of illustrations, handwritten set lists, concert mementos, et cetera.
We’ve also occasionally sifted through our own closets too, for long-lost treasures. We did the same this week, fishing around for some ancient artifacts … and, oddly enough, we wound up unearthing a handful of matchbooks.
Since we have about as much use for matchbooks as every other person who isn’t addicted to nicotine, they’ve survived over the years, when we haven’t mined them to light the occasional candle.
Exhibit A: The Black Heart Procession had this matchbook to hype their 2002 album, Amore del Tropico:
R.I.P. Touch and Go. Also, Black Heart fans, take note: More info on their new album, Six (October 6, Temporary Residence Ltd.), can be found here.
Exhibit 2: TV on the Radio. Here’s another one from T&G, this for the band’s 2004 effort, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes:
Hear about TVOTR frontman Kyp Malone’s new side project, Rain Machine? No? Then go here.
Exhibit III: Wanda Jackson. In many ways the female answer to Elvis Presley, she may have gotten her due had the gender scales been balanced back then. This token was to promote her 2003 comeback album, Heart Trouble:
Exhibit cuatro: This John Mayer memento is probably worth the most, even if it’s more scraped up than the others:
Exhibit 5: Don’t ask.
Exhibit F: Blue-Eyed Son were a quickly forgotten-about band whose home base was less than five miles away from the IndiePit Blog’s. Here’s a smaller-size scan of a promo piece for their West of Lincoln album from a few years back:
Yay, matchbooks.
