Sometimes after going to a show, you’ll take home a ticket stub. Or maybe a bruise.
Last night we were lucky enough to get our hands on a couple of seriously prized items while witnessing Torche and Big Business at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.
[You'd like to read a review of this show, you say? Why, there's one right here.]
Our first exhibit - let’s call it “Exhibit A” - is the above drum stick that once belonged to Torche’s Rick Smith - after he nearly broke it into splinters and passed it along to us.
For this item, we have to thank the band’s dreadlocked amigo who was helping them load and unload on and offstage. He kindly agreed to try to get us one of the band’s set lists, but upon discovering that Torche had memorized their program, he secured this treasure for us instead.
Speaking of set lists, looke what we have here:
This was what the night’s other drummer - Big Business’ Coady Willis - read from while tirelessly pounding for almost an hour. And we mean that: Watching him is like seeing Roger Federer sweat his way through five sets at Wimbledon - on a court located inside a sauna.
Torche fans, don’t miss our profile on Pirates Press, which has been pumping out the band’s releases on vinyl.
