Looks like the Pixies will be Doo-ing it up right in Europe this fall. Drowned in Sound reports that the re-reunited legends will celebrate the 20th birthday of Doolittle, which some fans regard as their best album (others, like yours truly, side with Surfer Rosa instead) with a string of October gigs. They’ll be playing the album in all its Crackity glory. …
Wavves - whose onstage meltdown in Barcelona a couple of months ago has already become the stuff of legend - have lifted the veil on their first music video. The ADD-striken clip for “No Hope Kids” does justice to the juvenile delinquents, showing them drinking and smoking, and stumbling through one of their anything-goes gigs. If you haven’t already, get acquainted with the troublemakers via this MP3 for “So Bored,” one of the songs that appear on their still-fresh Wavvves (triple-Vs intended), which dropped on Fat Possum. …
Arty-smarty trio Double Dagger - part of Baltimore’s surprising surge as an indie-rock-city-to-be-reckoned-with - have taken a stab at a video for “Vivre Sans Temps Mort,” a song from their More LP (Thrill Jockey). The dizzying stop-motion clip shadows a kid as he assembles model cars - not nearly as sinister as the song itself, but eye-grabbing all the same. More’s first single is actually not “Vivre” but “The Lie/The Truth,” which you can download gratis right here. …
The Morning After Girls will awaken for a summer tour on July 30 in San Francisco, hoping to stir up some love for their July 7 iTunes release, Alone. They’ll be opening for fellow psych-opaths the Warlocks as the tour winds through August and ends with a pair of shows at Los Angeles’ Spaceland on the 28th and 29th. …
Coincidentally, L.A. head cases Nebula - who would fit comfortably on the Warlocks bill - will be doing some trekking of their own from August 4 in San Francisco through early September, with the Entrance Band lending support. Get a dose of the Neb’s new song “The Dagger,” to appear on their July 7 release Heavy Psych (Tee Pee), right here. …
Stephen Colbert’s pals the Apples in Stereo will get a pat on the back on September 1 with #1 Hits Explosion. The album is dropping on Yep Roc - funny, because it sounds like it could’ve been titled by Jon Spencer, whose Heavy Trash and Spencer Dickinson projects have also called the label home. While you won’t find anything new on the release, the Apples plan to bear fresh fruit next year. …
Fleet Foxes - perhaps one of the most easy-to-listen-to bands that Seattle has ever produced - have slipped out an acoustic version of “Blue Spotted Trail” via Pitchfork, even though it was recorded for the BBC. The song - which only features the five-piece band’s main dude, Robin Pecknold - reminds Pitchfork of Neil Young, but we’re hearing just as much Crosby and Nash.
